It was surprisingly difficult to get into this book. However, once I got past the first quarter I couldn’t put the book down. The ending was a bit cliche, but at the same time, it’s sometimes nice to have some sort of comfort at the end of the book instead of a cliffhanger. I definitely recommend this book for anyone who enjoys books with themes of magical realism, family relationships, love, and loss.

If you loved Alice Hoffman's original, "Practical Magic," then you'll surely enjoy this prequel. It takes you through the gut-wrenching yet mystical lives of the "aunts," Jet & Frances. You'll understand their upbringing, reservations, and how they came to love so deeply. Can't wait to see what else she writes about the Owens family.
