I'm not sure about the accuracy of this book, but I was so drawn to the characters. I'm also struggling to love this book when I don't know how that will be perceived... The characters struggle through their lives and I don't live that, but I do love being a witness to their path.

I appreciated the visibility into oppression of women & Palestinians both in Palestine and in the US. However, the book is very repetitive with characters that are summed up with 1-2 characteristics. It could have been a lot better.

- Things I shared with Sarah: our love for books (as no one in our families read except us), cowardness (as we both run away from home), and the way we see things (especially our need of freedom).
- This book shows how patriarchy ruined lives, how men could also become the victims, also how the victims could become enablers because they were afraid that society would judge them if they didn't do things by the book.
