I received an electronic copy of this novel through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. My full review can be found here.

Like in the first installment, the plot was very interesting and intricate, but I found it difficult to connect to the characters. It felt like there were a lot of points of view in this installment. While the characters all had interesting stories to tell, I inevitably felt some stories were more interesting than others, and it began to feel tedious to read through the characters that I did not think were as interesting. Because of that, I decided to stop reading the series here.

It was a solid piece of work though, and I can see many people loving this series! It simply did not hit the perfect note for me.

A really good book, I like the characters and really want to know about their future. The plot is really good and keep you on your toes, with unexpected twists.

This one went a lot smoother and quicker than the first one simply because I already knew who everyone was. However I did feel a lot didn't really happen. It moved swiftly but felt more hollow verses the first. Still didn't ruin my enjoyment of this series or book but it does emphasize how this should have been one large novel.

The second book in this series doesn't live quite up the first, but perhaps that's due to so much of it being devoted to wrapping up last book's loose ends. Speaking of: bit of a rushed ending. I also would've loved in Lian Hearn would've posted that character sheet online, because listening on audiobook is quite confusing with the skyrocketing cast list. In terms of plot development, I was fairly satisfied, although I would've loved a few more pages about plot events that were glossed over.

I'm going to definitely see this series through, but I have no idea where it's going to go, and I'm unsure if that's a good thing or not.

I was prepared to just slog through this one to clear it off my tbr pile but about halfway along something clicked. The back half flew by and I'm already a few chapters into the third book.

I absolutely loved this book! It was even better than the first and I was absolutely sucked into the story. I didn't want it to end...

I was on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading. I didn't predict so many things that happened in the series and it was all the more enjoyable. I look forward to what happens in the third book.
