What an original and quirky sci-fi novel. It was heavy on the human - alien romance, and the plot was primarily a love story, which I wasn’t expecting.
I love how brutally honest Beryl was, and a lot of things she said made me laugh. However, l can’t get past the fact that she just rolled with her alien abduction, with such little resistance… but I think that’s more because I wouldn’t be so calm and that’s just the sort of character she is.

I gave it a three out of five just because I felt like the ending happened too easily, and I was hoping for something a bit more. But honestly, it was enjoyable and I struggled to put it down. I’ll definitely be reading the next one in this series.

Strange Love got my attention because it was a SF romance where alien was not humanoid. And it is one of the rare times where the book actually exceeded my expectations.

✔ The alien race is non-humanoid, more insect-like in my understanding. It was refreshing reading from a perspective of such a different hero. (reminded me of [b:The Cloud Roads|9461562|The Cloud Roads (Books of the Raksura, #1)|Martha Wells|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1317017378l/9461562._SY75_.jpg|14346450]).
✔ The alien world is interesting and I am sad that we did not get to see more.
✔ The heroine has a happy-go-lucky personality.
✔ Cute pet dog
✔ A lot of funny situations, mostly thanks to the cute doggie. :)
But...
✘ While the heroine is a go-with-the-flow girl, it still seemed like she fell for the hero too fast. Especially since he was not just different culture but also different species that looks horrifying to her at first sight.
✘ The (very detailed) sex scenes ... I was ok at the start but as they got it on...

Definitely not my type of thing. :o

Strange Love was definitely something else. A well-written SF erotica with a non-humanoid hero. I just wish that details from sex scenes were instead used for more detailed descriptions of the world and this intriguing alien culture Ann Aguirre invented.

Don’t want to write an in depth review right now so I’m going to make it short
