I listened to this audio book on a recent road trip. It was pretty good except for the fact that CD #4 was scratched so there was a big hole in the story. I might have rated it higher had I been able to listen to the whole thing.

A very interesting book with a wonderfully unique plotline. I enjoyed the use of language and the truly unique perspective of the narrator. The point of view danced on a line of near omniscience, but kept the humanity of bias and assumptions. My only issues with this book is that at times parts of the plot did feel drawn out whereas the ending felt somewhat rushed. Overall a good read.

Amy Tan is a great writer and creates bold pictures in this book. I liked it instantly because it is told from the perspective of a ghost which is, to me, an innovative move. I learned a lot about Burma/Mayanmar in this book, which was a nice bit of education.

At heart, this is an adventure story that highlights very human traits. A bit of a departure from Amy Tan's other books, but if you really like an author, I think you have to trust them to take you down new paths of stories and genres.

This was an excellent book, so mystical, you could always smell the dampness of the air in Burma and feel the water splashing on to you from the boat.

This wasn't my favorite from her. I like the traditional flashbacks. I am also a little unclear if anything like this really happened. Silly, but that distracted me a bit while I was reading. I love the the meaning behind the title, though!!!!

Not Amy Tan's best book, but still just as interesting especially to learn about Myanmar. Too many stories tangled together than you really do not get much involved with either of the characters.

This is very much like The Lovely Bones as it was narrated by the deceased. I thought for some reason the friends had died. At the end I thought what was the point? The only thing I was thinking was that I don't want to travel internationally even though I had many years ago.
With that said, the characters were very thought out and the scenery very vivid.

I liked the Joy Luck Club much better. I also have The Kitchen God's Wife in my to be read list.
