I listened to this as an audiobook, which I'd highly recommend when reading this book. Tegan and Sara are excellent storytellers. I felt like I was right there along with them. Though it's hard to tell their voices apart, they say their names before each chapter to help with clarity. The songs included are a great touch to hear how they sounded when first starting—although two days after hearing it, I still have "Where Did You Go Tegan" stuck in my head. (If you listen, you'll understand.)
Though T&S are seven years older than me, I felt like I still got all of their pop culture references—the giraffe Beanie Baby carried around (Twig!) and quoting The Smashing Pumpkins, "'I'll burn my eyes out, before I get out...' I wanted to burn my eyes out too." YES! Pretty sure I said those exact words after that exact song (and "I'll tear my heart out, before I get out") many, many times. Here for it.
It's when reading books like this that I realize again how lucky my parents were with my sister and me. Things I've never done but T&S had already done many times by the time they were sixteen: Gone to a rave. Done Acid. I could go on. Perhaps I'll start sending my parents books like this to remind them of just how good I was. :'D

This book was just so so good and heart wrenching. It perfectly encapsulates how it feels to come into your queerness and identity.
