750 pages is loong when the protagonist is utterly despicable from page 1. Truly a predatory man with an terrifying obsession over an 18 year old, not to mention his pathological need to objectify her (and routinely rub objects she has touched all over his face). Beyond that just a super whiny dude aghast that he might have to face repercussions for treating the two women he “loved” terribly.

I really liked learning about Istanbul as a whole and the real life story behind the book/museum is really interesting but the idea that this was supposed to be a love story in any way truly soured the whole experience. If this was written as a scathing critique of misogyny in Turkish culture then 10/10, otherwise, this is real rough stuff.
