I never thought I'd read this but I really want to read Joyce's Ulysses, and before that I would need to read the Odyssey, and before that, the Iliad, hence how we got here.
My first step into Homer and it went better than I thought; I did use SparkNotes to make sure I was getting everything because there's a lot to keep track of. I'm not a huge fan of war and battle based narratives, what I liked were Homer's glimpses into the psychology of men, the tragic nature of the plot, the elements of the story that still live on.

Un poème épique qui sait se montrer prenant lors des scènes de bataille ou de conflits verbaux, mais qui possède tout de même un style un peu lourd.

Was considering giving this 4.75 stars because it’s not as good as the Odyssey, but then I realised that would be STUPID.
It’s brilliant, but it’s been discussed to death so I don’t have much to add. Specific to Wilson’s translation however, her word choice is practically perfect, and she confirmed a long-held suspicion that Homer is at its best in verse.
Also I saw someone rate this 3 stars and say ‘Why did every soldier need a name’. Congratulations, you just missed the entire point.

It's great as a resource, but it's not really what you would call an interesting and entertaining piece of literature.
