I loved this book! It gave a glimpse into the childhood of Louisa May Alcott, through the eyes of a fictionalized neighbor and friend named Susan. Louisa, (or Louie, as she preferred to be called in this book), lived with her family, and other families, on a communal farm, named "Fruitlands." They practiced veganism, and opposed slavery. (They would not even wear cotton clothing, because slave labor was used to process the cotton.) I loved the way that Susan examined the lives of the Fruitlanders, with an open mind, yet at the same time, retained her reasoning and common sense. She accepted people who were different than her, and learned so much about herself during the process.
