In this ninth book in the Meg Langslow mystery series, Karen, a woman Meg is distant friends with shows up out of the blue and dumps her toddler in Meg’s care “just for a bit” then never returns. When Meg tries to find Karen, (with cranky toddler Timmy in tow and listening to Barney on repeat in the car everywhere she goes) she discovers she may have been entangled in a mess involving embezzlement and the local university… and the mystery may go deeper than that. As always, Donna Andrews writes a good mystery to untangle. This one was a bit light on the quirky exotic animal scenes that I look forward to in the author’s books and had quite a few cranky toddler scenes, so while I enjoyed the mystery, this probably isn’t one I’ll reread.

Another good addition to the series. You can always count on Andrews for a light mystery.

Fun! I like her stories - good cozies. Though finches were more important than cockatiels, Chips brethren did make an appearance. Definitely a quick read.

I'm still loving the Meg Langslow series. I've said it before, and I'll say it again - I think Donna Andrews has been so clever in the way she's plotted this series out - I know Meg's run into a lot of corpses in a small time, but Meg and Michael's relationship has evolved and developed without resorting to the endless break-ups and reconciliations that you see so often in series of this length. And as I love Meg and Michael, I'm glad we haven't done that cycle - and that their relationship has gone at a steady pace rather than rushing into everything (engaged one book, married the next, baby the next etc).

Anyway, Andrews is still coming up with inventive plots and with Meg's crazy family there's plenty of scope for humour. I still find myself laughing out loud reading these books.

I've already ordered the next one...
