Refreshing for a YA novel, with wonderful characters and a kind of fate that never seemed ridiculous.

I adored this book! It was pretty much the perfect "summer before college, fall in love, figuring out what I want" teen read. Dimple is one of my favorite YA characters ever. She is smart, funny, and she knows what she wants, but I loved how she still lets herself fall in love in this story. I thought everything that was written about Dimple and Rishi's families and the duties that they both respectfully felt pressured to fulfill was one of the best parts of the story. The story line with the parents didn't read like teens-against-awful-parents but more like understanding-and-following-your-heart, but-still-respecting-your-parents. The Dimple and Rishi romance was so sweet. Fans of Nicola Yoon would enjoy this story, but personally I fell in love with Dimple and Rishi more than any other YA contemporary couple. Neither were completely defined by their romance, and were very well-written, and well-rounded characters. This book was so much more than just a romance though! I highly recommend it and will sing its praises.

It was a drag honestly. It was a typical YA romance with a couple witty lines and a couple India stereotypes thrown into the mix.

Dimple got on my nerves. Rishi was a little too perfect. overall a sweet story. The male narrator sounded like the narrator for the Percy Jackson series but is not the same person

I totally loved the characters of Dimple and Rishi. Their experiences and attitudes felt real and complex. I did not, however, love the dippy romance novel writing ("all he felt was this warm almost gooey feeling in his chest. Like his heart was wrapped in microwaved Nutella"). I think there's a reason I don't read many romance novels - I roll my eyes too often when I do.

I haven't read an adorable teen love story in a long time, so this book brought me back to my teen years when this was all I read.
This is also the first book I've ever read that features Indian protagonists, and it's refreshing to be introduced to the language, Bollywood culture, and Hindu traditions that Sandhya Menon so skillfully weaves into the narrative. Also, a girl who codes? Hell yeah.
