Hopscotch Love by Nikki Grimes; illustrated by Melodye Benson Rosales
Published in 1999
10-16 years old
This collection of poems is about someone’s life. They mention love letters, their brother and their relationship, school and random words. The words do not necessarily rhyme and describe everyday life.
This book would be good to have in the classroom. Students can read about how someone’s life might differ from their own. This could also be used in the poetry unit. You could describe how these poems describe what they might see on a specific day and the words do not necessarily rhyme. Students can get ideas and write their own poems describing their everyday life.
