Amber's a great character and I'm enjoying her story. It's great seeing this aloof witch collecting friends (although my favorite is probably Benji). Can't wait to read the next installment. (However, if you haven't read any of the Other books before, be sure to start with the Glimmer series.)

This was a great second installment to Amber’s series.  A few things were revealed, but there are still some mysteries to unfold.  I’m looking forward to the next one!

‘This is why I hate prophecy,’ I muttered. ‘F**king future. You have to be so careful with it. The wrong word here or there, and you can change everything.’

In this story, as we get closer to revealing the future, we get closer to unraveling the past. There are so many secrets for Amber to uncover and it takes every bit of her strength, wits and determination to get through. Someone she loves dies and she is able to solve the murder and make progress on the black witch problem.

I have enjoyed watching Amber grow as a character, become someone who is learning to be a friend and make friends. It’s also been great to watch her relationship with Bastion evolve. These are things that Harris excels at. She is able to write these believable fantasy characters that have realistic growth and development according to the rules of the world she has built.
