**SLIGHT SPOILERS**

The conclusion to a fantastic series.... Sort of.

Abercrombie reveals his dark humor here. The whole series ends on a cliffhanger, leaving pretty much everything unfinished.

I suppose we've come to expect the good guys to overcome all obstacles and bring the beginnings of a new Utopia. Applause to the author for wanting to do something different, but I still prefer to have all loose ends tied by the end of a series.

It feels super stingy to give this book less than 5 stars, but because my one disappointment in it was the very last piece of the ending I am struggling to rate it 5. Which makes me very sad after 72 hours of listening to the trilogy and loving it. Maybe when I’ve thought about it it will be a 5.

My only minor gripe with the previous First Law books - especially the first one - is that they have a tendency to be slow plot wise. The characters don't really accomplish very much but in spite of this they've been enjoyable to read because the characters themselves are so interesting and well developed. In contrast Last Argument of Kings is action packed. Multiple wars, city destroying battles, and cataclysmic events happen in this book and its awesome. The book's plot moves at breakneck speed and delivers satisfying answers to many of the questions I've had throughout the trilogy. Thoroughly enjoyable.

3.5 stars. I'm a big Abercrombie fan, but this book seemed a bit excessive.

Excessive on the writing (could've used cuts), excessive on the violence (of course, he's the King of Grimdark, but I felt this book took it to another level of gore). It felt like it could've ended a lot sooner.

Lots of great twists and turns, some satisfying endings, some not. I was a little frustrated with some of the character arcs in this book, seeming to lose all progress found in previous ones.

Joe Abercrombie is a great character writer. He knows how to write the duality of people especially in terrible situations. The reason wasn't a 5 because it just didn't feel like a 5 and I don't know how I feel like the ending. I am reading this as part of a read-along, so my rating may go up to a 5 after the discussion.
