If you're looking for a fun, middle grade novel, I would recommend going for this one. There's humor, adventure, and it also discusses more serious themes to go along with it. The writing style was very reminiscent of the books I read as a child, like A Series of Unfortunate Events. It was whimsical and brought back a lot of memories of my favorite children's books, like Roald Dahl. My favorite part about this book would have to be the illustrations. It's amazing that being a debut novel, the author managed to write and illustrate this book. The illustrations were wonderfully depicted and outshined my enjoyment of the story.

on one hand. i loved the whimsy the nonsensical details and the ambiguous time period. i also loved the COLOR PLATE ILLUSTRATIONS !!!!! on the other hand the other reviews are right. this entire book is exposition and nearly nothing happens until more than halfway through. but the illustrations make me round up instead of down

Here it is, my favorite book of 2015. If Roald Dahl and Wes Anderson wrote and illustrated a book it would be this. I enjoyed every word. This book is beautiful to look at and a pleasure to read. I'm so glad there are more to come. Hope this book gains the buzz it deserves.

Viele wunderschöne Bilder in großen Formaten und kleinere Zeichnungen die den Text zieren.
