I swear, if this was another Fourth Wing fiasco, my one star will be quicker than a mouse running for its life

I just had a really hard time getting invested, also tryna the audiobook and some of the voice actors sound weird. Maybe I’ll revisit this at a later date

A good story that fell a bit short.

It was a good story, but the details and action scenes were lackluster. It was a fun read, but it definitely leaves room for improvement.
There is decent world building that you definitely can get immersed in, but locations/species/objects are mentioned without much detail. Also a big battle scene shouldn’t be 5 pages and the good guys somehow win very easily. A few of the plot points where a big detail is revealed, just didn’t seem impactful, and when a character’s storyline diverged from the main story it wasn’t impactful at all.. I feel like a lot of time was spent with each character, but the connection just wasn’t there.. A few of the characters grated on my nerves too.
At the end of a book, I want to set it down and just feel like I need a minute to process the book overall and especially the ending; this book did NOT do that for me.
For as big of a book as this is, I expect more details in world building and action scenes.
Allow me to add the caveat that all sci-fi space themed books get compared against The Expanse series, and unfortunately this book doesn’t even come close to that.
Overall, it was a fun read but a long ride that definitely could have been shortened down or more details could have been added about characters, world, action scenes, and impactful scenes.

So I got the ARC book from work, attempted to read it, got about to chapter 10 then stopped. Purchased the Audible version, liked that better and finished it.
To the people who think this has no direction, you are right. But did the breakfast club movie Have any direction? No. No I did not!
Does that deter the reader from enjoying the book? No. No it does not!
Do you enjoy The subtle romance, the crazy out of this world, sci-fi, drama, and all of the POV’s with all of their characteristics? Yes you do! And to the people who stated it was like the breakfast club meets guardians of the galaxy, you are correct! I definitely felt those vibes, and that is exactly how I saw this book.

The idea for this book, incredible. The execution on the other hand was really disappointing. I was excited to read this, I was, i love firefly and was hoping for that vibe. The premise cool.
Its next to impossible to form an attachment to any of the characters because by each chapter its changing to someone else, that also makes it really hard to follow on the world building. Couldnt tell you anything that about what these characters would randomly reference like we were supposed to know. They also didnt really have drastically different personalities, they could have been combined into one and maybe it would have flowed better?
I did ultimately dnf, i didnt see the point of continuing when the story had already lost me. Im glad others like it because i dont

ugh. i went into this book with the best intentions. i was reading it for a bookclub, but i just really was not excited by any of the characters. i liked kali but i just wasn’t drawn to her or anyone by anything original or interesting. im quite sad to be stopping this one as i feel like i could push myself through it but on top of not being interested by the characters, the plot is very unclear and we are already 100 pages in. like i don’t need a full outline but some idea about milla or whatever would be nice to keep me interested. the writing is fairly competent but the pacing and characters is what’s really let it down for me. it’s possible i will try again in the future but for right now i’m putting it down.

Let's be honest, my threshold for enjoying this book was extremely low after the atrocity that was the end of the Crave series. But there is no way I'm spending almost 20 hours on this audiobook.

This was the best book I've read this year. The characters had so much depth, the plot was engaging, the world building didn't leave me confused. This was so good! My only complaint was the cliffhanger!
