I didn’t love it. I didn’t hate it. It’s a decent sci fi romance book but a few criticisms.
This book is way too damn long. And it doesn’t need to be. The first 50 pages? Good. Last 150 pages? Interesting. The middle 350 pages? Literally so boring. Their editor should’ve had them trim at least 100 pages. There is too much inner monologue, too much boring conversations, and too many POVs.
Kali is annoying. Ian is annoying. Rain was great. Beckett I wanted more. All of the POVs were not needed and it ultimately made it that it was hard to dive into each character because the POVs were so split.
I know these kids are in their late teens early 20a but all the “eye fucking” and horniness was a little unbelievable. Like immediate eye roll because of the insta love. There was too much romance imo and it took away from the larger story.
There are different races of humans on the different planets with clear differences. But I do feel like some of the racial identities were really coded (ie Beckett as Asian). But what really bothers me is that Ian and Max are mentioned to have dark skin but all the fan art is white men as Ian……..
Lastly, that ending was so anticlimactic. Like truly I’m not invested enough to read the second one.

That was fun! Definitely loved the found family vibes and snarky banter! The insta-love between Rain and Beckett was a tad much, but I really liked the idea of them. Totally loved Kali and Ian, and I can’t wait to find out more about the Ian/Max/Milla situation. Definitely looking forward to the rest of this series!
Graphic: Death, Violence, Blood, and Gaslighting
