The pace was just really slow and made connecting with the characters too difficult, which was a shame as I read another series by this author and absolutely loved it.

The worst crime of this book is that Jasimir went through this whole book being a whiny ass and didn't get punched in the face by Fie even once.

I really liked the magic system and the way the relationships developed in this book. I'm not totally sure I want to read the next one, though.

I don't know if it's the narrator or if this needs to be read and not listened to, but I listened to four chapters and just could not wrap my head around what was happening. I feel bad, but nothing was making sense. Maybe I'll try reading the ebook at some point, but for now, I'll take a pass.

I thoroughly enjoyed this and will be reading the sequel right after. I thought the characters were interesting, the magic is interesting, and the love storyline wasn't terrible.

The perfect combination of plot- and charachter-driven development! I love this the way I love Six of Crows.

LOVE. THIS. BOOK. Owen's worldbuilding is incredible, the characters are well-developed, and the social issues are deftly handled. I do have one major question left niggling at the back of my mind, but I'll wait until I read The Faithless Hawk (which I hope will happen soon) before voicing it, in the hopes that Owen addresses it there and I can stop worrying about it.
