I can already tell my full review will be chock-full (or is it Chocolate-full?) of cliches like this one:

It's Raining Cupcakes is the sweetest book you will read all year!

When you need a pick-me-up, but aren't interested in indulging in a story so fluffy it gives marshmallows a run for their money, I suggest you sample Lisa Schroeder's first delicious MG book in the Cupcake series.

The only down side is where Shroeder leaves things. I think she should have stopped on page 179, included the yummy cupcake recipes, and allowed the New York adventure to begin in book two. The end was just incredibly awkward, but that is the only rainy side to this sunny tale.

I don't really remember much of this book anymore, but it's one of the books I remember reading and thoroughly enjoying when I was 9, 10 years old? I even tried to convince my mum to read it. So, well done Lisa Schroeder! Your book was very memorable.

Rated three stars because this book would be great - for the proper age group. I wasn't aware when I started reading this that it's a cheesy coming-of-age story about an annoying 12 year old who acted... Well, 12. Don't even get me started on the mother, ugh. Annoying. The only character I liked was Lana, who was only in it for the last quarter.

I also didn't like that the whole book was what's-her-face-protagonist (I've already forgotten her name because she was just that forgettable) complaining about how much she wanted to get out of her small town, then she finally does, and there was only about three pages written about it and the contest. I mean, seriously, with as much as she complained about wanting to leave, you couldn't give us a little more detail? She was in New York for pete's sake! Or at least tell us if she won the contest?

Long story short - if you're a 12 year old, read this. You'll probably enjoy it. Any older than that, skip it. This book isn't for you.

What can be wrong about reading a book that has cupcakes as a theme? Great lessons to learn and strong female characters. Can not wait to read the new second book. Review blogged here --> http://bit.ly/pQGsfJ

Isabel dreams of traveling the world but she has never left Oregon. She is envious of her friend who gets to go to summer camp and family vacations. Her mom has decided she wants to open a cupcake shop and she has moved the family to an apartment over the store. Isabel is not sure about the cupcake store but she wants to support her mom. Her mom is very enthusiastic about the store but she also suffers from depression and doubts. In addition to the cupcake store drama Isabel is determined to win a baking contest; the prize of $1000 and a trip to New York.

This is a great book for kids. Isabel is a strong determined young girl who has a lot going on in her life. I really enjoyed how she handles her family problems. She is very supportive of her mom even she has doubts. I like how she seems to roll with the punches but still has normal preteen reactions to things. Definitely a great fun read.

A cute book about a young girl having an exciting but difficult summer. When her usually flighty mom decides to open a cupcake shop, 11-year-old Isabelle is excited but nervous. Isabelle has to keep her mom's dream alive through many setbacks. I have to say, I found the parents very whiney and annoying, very childish. But, this is probably exactly why a young girl would enjoy reading this book. Ultimately, it is the daughter who saves the day. This was a quick read, and it was enjoyable. A very nice ending with a terrific message of empowerment.

This was awesome considering I want to own a bakery some day, and do a lot of other things but mostly a bakery. This book is also cool because it has cupcake recipes in the back!! :)
