Harsh, funny, accurate

Narnia was my childhood, and Lewis our pied piper. In some circles, Lewis is almost scripture. Yet Alexis' critique shows how it's all backwards. I think Lewis felt so right because he explained how we already thought, but the problem was our thinking was shaped by the wrong values.

I remember reading The Horse and His Boy to my daughter some years ago, and realising that Aslan was cruel and mean, his methods barbaric. BwB points out this kind of thing, everywhere. Yes, Aslan is the bad guy, in answer to Bitsy's question. He sets people up for failure, flirts with their safety, chafes at critical thinking, and withholds comfort. He's neither safe nor good.

I have many good memories of the worlds Lewis created, but I can't raise my kids on his values.
