Will definitely be circling back to the last section after my top surgery. Really felt seen in a lot of parts of this work :)

I knew that I was going to love this because it is from Gutslut and they have excellent taste, but I had no idea how much I was going to love it. As mentioned before, even though I rarely talk about it, I am relatively comfortable in my sexuality and gender (perhaps why I don’t talk much about it), but this definitely made me re-examine some things that I rarely have spent time with. In the very best ways.

This book is a frank exploration of the imperfection of language and the speaker’s evolving exploration of gender and sexuality.

The essays were well done. I liked the way Thokozani Mbwana broke down their thought process through each essay. There was such a guarded tone to the essays, the trauma the speaker mentions is clear both from the experiences they describe and the way it is discussed.

I really loved how the poems fit into the book. Shifting from the language of the essay to the fluidity of poetry to speak of sexual experiences was a really cool move.

Also, the Love Notes at the end were my favorite part! So wonderful and full of self-love!
