Yeah I liked this book, but I got a little distracted while listening so I think I missed a few things.
I like romantic books so would have liked a bit more of this in here, but maybe that will come in the other books.
Narrator was good but tended to do same voices for people which made it hard to work out the character (remember I was distracted, lol)

If it was possible to hate you for reccing this "book" to me Shrimpy, then I totally would have.

Can't believe other people in my friends list rated this 3 & 4 stars.
ARE YOU PEOPLE HIGH?! \(•_•*)

I picked this up on a whim after seeing it in the Amazon suggestions. I'm glad I did.

The main character is an interesting, flawed person. She loves her friends, bucks authority, but is stubbornly oblivious to herself.

The story is well textured, and small in scope but hinting at bigger things to come.

I look forward to reading more about Ella and her friends.

It honestly took a little while to get rolling, but once I did, I really enjoyed it.

Also, I have to say, it feels ballsy to replace 9/11 with a catastrophic magical event (the first Rip tearing open between the two towers of the World Trade Center in Manhattan, in 2001). Ballsy, but it worked - it gives you the immediate understanding of how horrifying it is and how it was a single moment that changed and redefined the world. That said, it also feels like a little bit of a cheat, but whatevs.

Ella is a little standoffish, and I worry she'll be offputting. I also dislike her tendency to use people and go her own way, trashing a plan people have put together, without there being any reason to believe her way is the only way things will work. Her ego is astounding. This could be a problem for me, going forward.

A nice riff on magic turns real in the 21st century with a heroine who is more resourceful than magically inclined, a partner who rocks the magic and isn't a love interest, and slow burn with a PI. Gargoyles, demon, and witches, oh my.

I don’t DNF books. However, i literally can’t force myself to continue this one and I’ve already read 157 pages. I literally fell asleep while listening/reading. This just wasn’t for me. It’s very slow and absolutely could not keep my interest what so ever.
