This collection of poems is the first thing I’ve read of Amber Dawn’s and it’s a masterpiece. The content warning at the beginning is incredibly necessary to get the reader in the correct and safe mindset. This is a raw, beautiful, brutal, honest collection of poetry and I will be thinking about Dawn’s work for a long time.

Just incredible, the last poem is going to haunt me for years to come. Some people ask me why I am a poet and do not write, and I feel like there's a poem that really articulates the interplay between politics, self, and art in a way that lingers beyond these pages. Loved!

I can honestly say that I rarely gravitate toward poetry, but something about this book and its cover drew me in. It was worth it. Hearing the perspective of a former sex worker-turned-poet on any number of topics - including the views on the trade itself and her opinion on stars who try to save Amber and her peers from their plight is nothing short of fascinating. Recommend, even if you don't usually read poetry.
