A staple of the Weird in fiction is taking a batshit insane idea and making a good story out of it. And this is what Erik Williams has done here. Bigfoot gets addicted to meth? Yes, sure. And add two lots of drug dealers, a corrupt sheriff, an amateur porn-maker, and a shellshocked Marine who's retreated to the woods, and you have an engaging short novel. Unlike others I didn't find it gratuitously violent although with that situation it is going to be bloody. I do wonder if Bigfoot would want to have sex with a human female any more than a human would want to have sex with a monkey, but maybe that's meth for you. Maybe Bigfoot is actually a relict human, a tribe living in the deep forests, and not an ape (any more than we all are).
I wondered if Persephone (significant name that) is going to be a character in other books by this author as she is a bit of a chess-piece at the moment but could be made more of.
All in all, a book whose reviews made me think I wasn't going to enjoy it, but I did.

Might've pushed my ability to enjoy needless sex, but entertaining nonetheless. Recommended with aforementioned caveat.

Before getting this novel I'd never read anything by Erik Williams; and will admit to not being too interested in any story which contains bigfoot - but am I pleased that I read this book else I would have missed out on a real fun story.

The story follows a couple of small town drug dealers who go up to a rivals cabin to put them out of business, only to find they have a meth addicted bigfoot locked up in the basement. Add in a psychotic sheriff and some amateur porn stars and you have an interesting and varied story.

There is a good mix of good and bad characters, each very different from each other and putting those with an unpredictable bigfoot makes the whole story interesting from start to finish. The whole thing is fast paced and makes this a real page turner. It's really made me to take more risks when picking books - otherwise risking missing hidden gems this this one.

The novel was received in exchange for an honest review.

Bigfoot Crank Stomp. The name is very appropriate. Drugs, Sex, Blood, Rape, Murder (additional TW's: Fire, homophobia, some ableist wording, misogyny, golden shower, over-all grossness).

Bigfoot's addicted to meth because some idjits decided to drop out of school to make a living dealing meth. And because they knew there were other meth dealers that would see them as competition, I guess they got the bigfoot as protection? Bigfoot was chained in their cellar. I mean the door was chained so he couldn't get out.

You already know if this is something you want to pick up or not. If you are thinking "that sounds interesting" or whatever, pick it up. If not, stay away. It's really that simple.

That said, personally, I found it enjoyable. I wasn't sure all the way through but the assholes were openly called assholes so I didn't see it as their behavior was ok. They were just fucking assholes. Was it perfect? No. But over-all I did like it.

It mentioned some things that I really did appreciate. "This wasn't the time to be hiding things because they were horrendous" "You always have a choice".

I felt awful for Russell, with why he was dealing meth as well as he did not deserve what he got. It does say that though. But the assholes got what they deserved so there is that.

It was an interesting and...wild ride. And I didn't hate it. Not a new favorite but I don't regret that I read it either.
