Korkeakirjallista tavaraa. Tarttumapinta paikoin hakusessa, mutta kokoelmaan mahtui muutama oikein oivallinen novelli.

The writing style didn't suit me, I found it hard to follow and the stories didn't grip me.

Although Tabucchi is one of my favorite writers, and criminally under read; this would fall among my least favorites of his. Still; it contains the same soft, dreamlike atmosphere of his other books; as well as the continuing themes of melancholy, solitude, romance, food, travel, etc. This collection of short stories seems more "narrative based" than his others, and in particular seems influenced by 'genre fiction.' However, it also feels less emotional and powerful.

If you haven't read his short stories, I would start with the collection "Time Ages in a Hurry." The short novels I've read are all exceptional and profound. (Especially Pereira Declares, Requiem, and For Isabel).

In this collection, the final two stories were my favorites; and strong enough to sneak a four star rating out of a mostly "3 star" collection.

Oh; and that cover art! A David Hockney piece done in crayon :) Amazing.
