this book took me almost 2 months to read. but it was so worth it. i have this feeling of like … what do i do now?

the ending was so good. the very few past pages. so, so good. the characters were all so flawed, so human. but i loved them all regardless. it was as if i actually knew them. the stories were surreal, yet gutting to read, because i fear that some of the events that took place are not far from the reality of life back then.

if you have the patience, i would absolutely recommend this book. the one downside is that i didn’t find it to be a book i could relax with. i had to be focused to work out the connections between characters and such. i even ended up drawing family trees to help myself

this book was great. i’ll miss the Jashis.

What a story! What a gift of storytelling! There was not one single page I was bored or asked myself if reading the whole thing was worth it. I want a 3 season tv-series made from this so that I can laugh, cry, mourn and love again with Brilka's family.

This book felt like my heart was ripped out multiple times and made me go through so many tumultuous emotions. Definitely not for the faint of heart and definitely has a lot of triggering sections. It explores generational trauma so deeply and so well that I found myself so intrigued in each character's stories. There are also so many things happening throughout this book that somehow all come together in the end. The author also accurately portrays how patriarchy upholds a lot of this generational trauma. We see this through a lot of the male characters, specifically through Kostja (I really came to despise him despite his somewhat "redemption" in the end.)

Though I haven't read A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara (and I never will), based on what others have said, this book is probably as trauma-filled as it is. So take what you will with that.
