The first book was excellent and this keeps up the pace and interest. How the author can describe battle scenes so well shows the skill in his writing. I have already bought book 3 and will start it straight away. The whole series has been five stars so far!

Men stop writing SA storylines challenge, ready go! Please I'm begging at this point actually, this was so terribly terribly handled. I have zero faith that the after effects will be handled any better in the next book, if I'm honest. And I'm really mad, bc it's such a negative aspect of an otherwise really good story that I am very invested in. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you're going to include an SA arc, there has to be a reason for it, MORE THAN simply to show that X character is a bad guy.

But anyway, it might just be my headspace, but i was so fucking tired of the good guys never fucking winning here. I love Veradis but he's also such a fucking idiot and his intentional obtuseness is degrading my love for him. That said, Veradis embodies one of the main themes of this whole series, that people are willing to excuse anything as long as it means they can continue to believe what they want to. There's a quote in here that is the literal thesis statement of this series:

It is strange how men will believe what they want to believe - cling to it - even when the truth is there to see.

This is such a classic example of a Good vs Evil storyarc. Like I heard it was a classic example, but I guess I didn't quite believe it, but it really really is. With that, I would like the good guys to start winning now bc the bad guys are so fucking insufferable 😩😩😩

EDIT: Having read the after effects of the SA storyline, can confirm that it continued to be terribly handled and I have lowered my rating.
