I discovered Catherine Newman by chance. I saw Sandwich on the "new hardbacks" table in my local bookstore and was intrigued. Bought it and fell in love. I immediately wanted to read this after and I am so glad I did.
It's the most real and relatable account of grief, mourning, death and friendship that I have ever read. The messiness and general fuckery that is real life is here in all its glory. I laughed. I cried. I identified massively with Ash. I wish Catherine had 10 more novels for me to immediately sink into but I guess I'll just have to wait and be patient for more of her brilliant writing.
