It was overly explanatory for very basic things. I made it through chapter 1 and the way it ended I was so dumbfounded by the language and the short cut story telling that could have been done in half the time and had more impact. It’s a bit play school language with shock factor elements which didn’t seem to do anything for the progression of the story in some parts .

I did enjoy this book quite a bit and it was a surprisingly easy read despite it's length. I'm not 100% sure why I liked it so much honestly. Usually I can put my finger on it, but not this time. I think I liked or was intrigued by a good number of the characters (particularly Philip). It was rather predictable, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing in this case, just a different type of storytelling compared to the plot twisty narratives we usually see today.
