I’ve been eyeing this book for a long time because the title alone always made me think of my first year in New York and how lonely and scary it could be. I wasn’t aware of the author’s style of writing or past books and I was pleasantly surprised to read interesting biographical histories of artists and their work intertwined with her relatable personal stories.

Well, this book was very interesting and taught me a lot about the artists it discusses and how their loneliness affected them and the people around them. But I expected it to focus more on the issue of loneliness itself than it did. It felt a bit awkward to me. I'm glad I read it but wouldn't recommend it to a prospective reader trying to get helpful insights into the issue of personal loneliness.
