This book is really great, and I discovered it on the Upstream Podcast where Cory was a guest. I must say I would recommend listening to the podcast first as I found it more digestible than the book, and the examples more interesting and relevant, but this book is great and full of valuable information you'll be hard-pressed to find elsewhere unless you're specifically looking for it.

I did find that Doctorow's anti-China bias clouded my enjoyment of this book. Yes, China runs labor/internment camps for the Uyghurs. But the US does things that I would call "much worse," and China has made much better technological progress than us, especially in terms of clean energy. I think they deserve credit for that and to not be villainized wholesale. If they are, the US should be villainized wholesale as well (which I am not against, but that was not the attitude I got from his writings). But overall, a great book with very fascinating and important information, and I would recommend it to everyone!
