I LOVED this book.

This book was a such a saving grace. I just finished Six of Crows and All The Light We Cannot See and have been trying to distract myself with some other book. This book is not like those two: it's not "deep" or quality "literature" or even "quality YA", but it's shameless. It doesn't try to be more than what it is. It's confident in itself. And it is so awesome.

I read this book over the course of three hours, so forgive me if I miss something. The book is about three girls- Kat, Lillia, and Mary, who plot to take revenge on certain people who have harmed them. Now, this isn't petty revenge. These girls are serious, and it is such a fun and bumpy ride.

"This is Karma. I’m a bitch. Can you think of anyone who deserves a bitch slap."

Setting: The Setting was strange at first. It's supposed to be like Martha's Vineyard or whatever but the way these kids were talking and dressing it sounded a lot more like Coronado. Which is great, because Coronado is one of the best places on earth.

The Main Characters: I am so used to a lot of heavy contemporary that the plainness of the prose was a bit annoying at first. I felt like Kat, Lillia, and Mary were talking to me like I was in second grade. However, once I got used to it, I was okay. Like I said, this isn't high-brow. These girls aren't deep and introspective. They're angry and out for blood. And that's what makes them so interesting. The authors don't waste their time trying to get us to like them.

The Drama: Okay, move over Pretty Little Liars and Gossip Girl, you've got trouble. Burn for Burn is campy and it's supporting characters are a little cliche, but it's worth it because the twists and turns are so, so wonderful and so, so exciting.

Off to read the next one! :)

2020 review: basically the same feels as in 2014. I reread it so I could move on to the sequels, which my library has. Let’s see if I like book 2 any better than book 1!

2014 review: think I've been reading too many YA novels with similar plots lately. While Burn for Burn was an interesting read, and while I (really!!!) want to read the sequel, I am getting a little tired of the overused trope of "hey, I was wronged by X person in X way in X grade, so I am going to get revenge on them now that I am a senior in high school!!"

I never really clicked with any of the three protagonists, either. The one I had most in common with, personally, was Mary, but it was hard to feel like I really knew any of them that well because the POVs changed so frequently.

And the ending!!! Holy crap, that ending... so not cool. I hate it when books end on cliffhangers... it seems like a very crude way to get you to read/buy the sequel. I mean, I understand that it's a very commonly done thing, but the way Burn for Burn ended was so infuriating. I have so many questions but I am not quite intrigued enough to buy the sequel immediately. Eventually, though, yes, I think I will look for the rest in the series.

This book was really surprisingly good. It's followed nicely, If you asked me how many authors wrote I would probably say just one, but these two did awesome together. I give this book 5 stars

Really enjoyed this book.
I love how everything was very suspenseful, and once you did find out what was going on, it wasn't what I expected at all. I became very attached to the characters and wanted to find out more the whole time.
I loved seeing everything come to light and how the characters dealt with it.
I can't wait for the next one, to see if the couple I am pulling for ends up together.
Read it, you'll enjoy it!

I physically ache to read the next book on this series! God! ♥
I love this so much because of the thrill it offered and I finished it in just one seating so it felt like I devoured every word of it. The personality of each girl balances the other and I liked their private camaraderie.
Gave it 4 stars because the 2 characters I shipped
Spoiler Alex and Lilia
didn't end up but I'll never know until I read the second and third book so I'm still VERY hopeful.
