Tahere Mafi saved me from my worst reading slump in years. Thank you so much for that!!
I just love her writing stile and world building. Everything feels so vivid and real in my mind.
I love the characters. The gentleness of alizeh is so inspiring and made me like her very much. Her character had real depth and I felt her heartache, loneliness and powerlessness.
I’m not totally sure about the ending and the direction we’re heading in. But we’ll see.

“I think I might fetch you the moon if only to spare your tears again.”

Hm... This book is... kind of boring. I think this is proof that even if the writing improves, it doesn't really make a story interesting. I liked the characters, but the pacing felt off. Was this better than Shatter Me? In some aspects, yes. In others, (like entertainment), no. Also, apparently this is a Cinderella retelling? That's a bit obvious. I really liked the Persian inspired fantasy world as well. I'm interested to see where this story goes.

okay so!!! this book was incredibly boring at the beginning i'm ngl. like it was just so slow and then got really interesting just towards the end. i really like the writing! it helps me picture the scenes in my head super clearly. alizeh is an okay main character. i don't feel like there's much to her personality tbh. she's alright, though. and kamran is just alright, too. neither of them were particularly interesting.
but goddamn. the way he's so down bad for her got me. like it had me giggling. but also like control yourself yk. you barely know this woman and here u are kissing her and wanting to undress her. kamran's a freak fr.
i can't say i find cyrus too interesting either. i mean, i am curious about him. and he seems more interesting than kamran to me. but i have yet to see that. (un)surprisingly my favorite character was miss huda. like i am praying to god she is a recurring character bc she seems like the funny one. and i find omid cute as well! i want him to be one of the main characters, too. hazan, too. just bc he seems like he has the potential to be interesting
then again like.. he got arrested so... 🤷‍♀️  free my man though!!!
the plot was good. like i said, it was really slow in the beginning so i was falling asleep. the focus in this one seemed to be more on just alizeh and kamran's lives and their relationships w the people around them. it wasn't too fun to read for me. but! it got really good at the end for me. so i do look forward to seeing where it goes from here.
marriage of convenience trope maybe?? ooh 🤭

The prose was beautiful which made up a bit for the mellow pacing. I feel a bit disconnected from all the characters, though, but again it shows that skilled writing can make up for other things.
