audio book - if you have any interest in this book, I would suggest you listen to it so you can actually hear the author tell his story. I'm giving this a 4 because it was very good, but I will admit that there were parts that seemed to repeat the same feeling over and over. Then again, maybe that was the point - to show how certain things affect you forever.

Loved it! Probably my favor it autobiography to date. And as I listened the him narrate the book himself, that made it even better. I've always thought Alan Cumming was pretty amazing, but now I do so even more!

This book is pretty dark, well written but pretty dark. It's a good reminder of the dark you sometime have to go through to make your life better. also, i commend the author for writing a book that brings untalked about mental issues to the for front.

This was fantastic.

Not the usual "this is the story of how I became famous" celebrity memoir (which can still be interesting!) but much more heavily focused on Alan Cumming's childhood abuse, his relationship with his family, with male mental health, and more. I really appreciated how everything was talked about and the clear-minded, hopeful way that this book approached survival.

I also adore Alan Cumming and would listen to him talk about paint drying, but that's only because I'm sure he'd find a way to make it both witty and introspective.

A brief warning for a singular use of the r slur. It was a moment of his internalized panic at not being able to properly function as a person. I don't believe it had harmful intentions, but I still wanted to address it.

Overall, I absolutely loved my time reading this and I highly, highly recommend consuming it as an audiobook so you can hear Alan Cumming narrate it.

wow... I watched the episode of "who do you think you are" that parallels this book and all I can say again is wow. Intimate, open and an engaging story.

Powerful book about growing up in an abusive home and how you can move on while recognizing it has shaped you.
