the concept and plot was really interesting but the writing and storytelling just fell flat. kate and charles’ chemistry didn’t really leap off the pages and their love story was full of overdramatic and cringey clichés. the cooking part, as well as the diverse cultural references were fun but still weren’t enough to salvage the book. overall very forgettable and just found myself skimming the pages towards the end.

Simply put - If I wasn’t trying to work towards my reading goal, I would have DNF’d this one sooner.

Oof, it was such a struggle for me to not DNF this one. It felt like the author wanted to write two separate books: an enemies-to-lovers (lite) romance and a new adult novel about a woman chasing her culinary dreams. Instead of executing either well, she instead decided to combine them and do neither element justice. The spice of this book can be found in the title alone and the best character is the hero's kooky rich mother. Skip it!
