i think fairytales fundamentally have a sense of terror to them, as a kid this seemed obvious yet unimportant, but as you get older you start to question what it actually is you should be so afraid of. i adored these stories and i know i’ll  come back to them.

"Beasts and Beauty" by Soman Chainani is a great collection of fairy tales! They're all somewhere between retellings and reimaginings in the best possible way.

Some of them are gender bent and some of them are queer bent (yay! 🏳️‍🌈), but that isn't the point of them. These are all the stories you know, but they're told in a way that makes them so much deeper and darker and *better*.

Anyway, Peter Pan, of all things, made me cry, and I definitely recommend this book.

some of my favorite fairytale retellings i’ve ever read, really loved the modernization of the lessons being taught while keeping the same
classical fairytale storytelling :)
