I enjoyed this return to Willow Creek more than the last. It helps that the story isn't centered a catfishing scenario that never got fully past "uncomfortable." I actually really like April and Mitch together. I think the chemistry is good and the pair makes sense. Also, Mitch is great. Enough said.

But there were points in the book where I was frustrated at the conflicts that felt too insignificant to hold as much plot weight as they did. On one hand, I can relate and do understand April, but on the other hand I just wanted at least some minimal communication. It felt like there was none. I think this is what the book is lacking for me. I LIVE for some good communication (it doesn't even need to be perfect. There has to be some conflict, after all). I just don't know if there was enough to meet my preferences.

The other thing I wanted more of was interaction between April and Caitlin. Obviously their mother-daughter relationship has existed far before the time frame of this book, but this is the first time that there was true potential for the focus to be on them. Again, I don't think there needed to be a lot of this, maybe just a little bit more?

Oh, and more Ren Faire would be nice, but I felt the same about Well Played. After the Ren Faire was introduced in Emily and Simon's story it seems to have taken more of a backseat, serving only as the occasional plot device and the invisible glue that holds all these characters together. Not sure how I feel about that since it has so much potential for entertaining premises.

Anyway, gripes aside, I actually enjoyed Well Matched. I needed something light after the last book I read and this did the job. I'm interested to see what direction DeLuca take the next book in since it looks like it will be focusing on characters who have only made minor appearances so far.

Emily's sister April has always wanted to get out of the small town she settled in just after Caitlin was born. She hates the commute and she wants to be somewhere with more everything. With Caitlin going off to college in a few months, April decides that it's time to get out of town. Which means repainting and recarpeting her house. She needs help, which arrives in a surprising way: Mitch. Not that Mitch offering to help is surprising, but what is surprising is that Mitch needs a date to his grandparent's party. April agrees to fake date Mitch if he agrees to help her with the house. It's one weekend, what could possibly go wrong?

There's some interesting character development, as April learns that not everyone looks at her and sees 'single mom with scar from injury,' but sees 'single mom who's a member of this community.' She also realizes that she's pushed Caitlin away, what with never even once considering helping with the Ren Faire: she's a "mundane." She also has to decide what is important in her on-going relationship with Mitch, and what isn't important.
