It’s Christmas Day and Charlie is just recently left a psychiatric facility for his eating disorder. It’s already a difficult time of year, but the anticipation of loads of family and festivities has Charlie and his sister Tori stressed out. On top of that a lack of communication between Charlie and his mom makes the situation becomes volatile. Charlie leaves, abandoning Tori to spend the rest of Christmas with his boyfriend Nick. Alice Oseman writes these really tough topics so respectfully while still creating a very entertaining story. Charlie and Nick have to be the most disgustingly adorable couple ever, making this another warm and fuzzy comfort read.

A lil precious novella about 8 months into Nick & Charlie’s relationship on Christmas 🖤

We dive into Charlie’s dynamic with his extended family a bit more, especially when navigating their ableism and perpetuating of harmful narratives about psychiatric wards.

We get Tori & Oliver’s perspectives too, which I loved!

This winter was probably my favourite story in within the Solitaire books. I think it was a lovely look into the Spring family dynamic and I definitely enjoyed getting to listen to Oliver’s point of view. I think it was a very enjoyable read.
