This was my first read of Jewel's. I couldn't have been much more pleased with this book than I was!

This book is equally parts, funny, snarky, heart moving, heart warming, and full of swoons. I couldn't put this one down.

The characters made this book. Flint, Ellen, Flint's son, both Flint's parents and Ellen's parents. These characters were the making of a fantastic, entertaining book.

I could sit here and go on and on about this book, but then I would be giving away all of the wonderful things about this book that you need to experience yourself. If you are in the mood to swoon and laugh, you better snag this one now!

1st time listening to this author and I b#oody loved it….. I picked this book because I love Troy Duran as a narrator, he is one of my favourites. This book was sooooo funny but also had serious bits in it and I totally loved it. I will definitely been listening to more from this author.

Omg!!! This book!!!! It hurt so good!

Flint is a lawyer who has an office space for rent and Ellen is the perfect tenant until he finds out she is a music therapist.

It is the perfect list/hate book.
Because of Flint's history he see's himself as unworthy.
Ellen don't want to waste her time cause of her ex husband.

So when lust over rules hate. Things become really hot!
But can Flint and Ellen survive the obstacles standing in their way! (You gotta read this book)
This book was just amazing! I absolutely loved every single part of it.

If the books I’ve read so far are a preview of how 2018 will be in books, I’m in for a great time. This was another great read for 2018! I loved the story, loved the characters and loved how the author developed her story. There’s some mystery in the beginning but it’s disclosed slowly as we go along the ride with the characters, not hidden until the last minute. Meanwhile, we pass pages feverishly because we want to know what will happen. There’s angst, feelings, guilt, regret and funny moments and a precious slightly autistic boy.

Flint Hopkins is a lawyer, a successful one. He also has a secretary who enjoys needling him, sasses him no end, turns psycho when she wants to find out something that happened to him, and yet has his best interests at heart. He fires her on an almost daily frequency and she comes back next day, sure of her place in his work. Their interactions are priceless. One day she announces Ellen Rodgers to the office, she’s the new tenant for the second floor office. Ellen hums continually but then, she’s a music therapist. Nothing happens in their first meeting, but next time? Oh, boy!

After she moved into her office, the noise begins. Flint didn’t realize that being a music therapist involved all that sound. Now he tries to evict her from the building but he’s up against a very attractive woman who flusters him, his secretary who likes her, and his son who took an attachment to her. Harry suffers Aspergers, which is mild autism, and he’s very intrigued by her instruments. He takes to her and immediately assumes she’s going to teach him to play the guitar. Ellen also likes him a lot. Every day that Harry arrives from school, he rushes to her office to practice guitar with her.
Initially, Ellen and Flint are brought together by Harry, but they’re attracted to each other too. The obstacle is the crushing guilt that Flint suffers from killing his wife in a drunk car accident, where he was driving and had been drinking. He feels like he has no right to be alive, and only functions to give Harry the best life possible.

Ellen also comes from a marriage turned bad. She’s turning a new leaf and her new address and work are a new beginning for her. She’s sassy, quirky, emotional and fun. She loves flustering Flint and adjusting his tie, suit lapels and collars. Her father is a retired tailor, so she loves the suits Flint wears. She flirts and Flint gets aroused and mad that he got aroused. I love it when she slowly approaches him, and he watches her as if she were a snake charmer. He knows she’s going for his tie and it’s like he wants it but is wary. Their interactions, guided by Harry’s needs, bring them closer and closer.

From a guy who never smiles and “creeps out” his secretary, he slowly changes to a man who feels lighter and freer and happier. Of course, there are obstacles and problems, most outstanding his ex- mother in law who doesn’t approve that he should have a life and be free of the guilt of killing his wife. The book is about redemption and forgiveness. Ellen and Flint had to go through fire to where they were and had to defend their love. They had to forgive themselves for what they thought were their failures and accept their humanity and failings.

It was a great love story and I totally loved all the Harry moments and the tie-pulling moments. They have a lovely phrase where Ellen says to Fling: You sure do look the part. When Flint asks he gets a different answer depending on the part of the book we’re in. It’s a cute exchange, one of many they have. Another hysterical moment is when Elle is labeled “a seven”, you have to read it to enjoy it. I could read this book many times and get the same sense of enjoyment, it totally is a feel-good book.

This is tricky to review. There was a lot going on - lots of backstory angst and lots of ups and downs in the storyline. I suspect I would've given it 4 stars but I just couldn't get past Flint's behavior. Yes, he was unhappy and guilt-ridden, but that's no reason to be nasty. He was a jerk for much of the story, and I got tired of Ellen forgiving him over and over for his behavior. I really liked her character and that of Flint's son, but he was too much for too long.

Listened to this one on audio.

Jewel is one of my fave authors.
This is my least fave I’ve read from her so far.
Idk it was just boring to me and lacked jewels usual flair IMO.

I have been making my way thru reading all of Jewel’s books, I love her! All her books make me feel all the emotions, and even when one of her books make me angry I still want to keep reading them. Her storylines are unique and complex and layered. I really liked this book, and even the surprise that I usually hate in a book, was done well and tied in beautifully with the story. Flint is flawed and feels undeserving because of his past, but I can't help but love him the way Elle seems to love him without condition, or the way he loves her…GAH!
