I think that it is a fair assumption that the vast majority of people who say they will vote for Peter Omtzigt in recent polls have not read this book. Parts of it are very dry and boring. Even when I find myself agreeing with his conclusions, he doesn't fill me with enthusiasm about how he reaches them. Much of his argument consists of taking the constitution as a sort of Bible and measuring everything against that. He comes across as more of a lawyer than a politician. Indeed he says that he disapproves of politicians campaigning when instead they should be controlling the government. Sometimes he seems to get so bogged down in detail that he looses sight of the big picture. One of the most scandalous aspects of the scandalous 'toeslag affair' is that the tax service systematically discriminated against people with two passports. That structural racism is against Article 1 of the constitution that he refers to so often, but in the while chapter on that topic, it is only mentioned in passing. Apparently this was not an important issue for him.
I was disappointed with this book. Whilst I agreed with the majority of his conclusions, the text was largely dry and boring and he seemed to have difficulty separating minor from important issues.
