If I think about this too seriously it's going to dig up so much trauma from the last two years that I'm not capable of dealing with so I'm just going to say this is phenomenal, terrible, and beautiful.

This book was beautiful and powerful. (Quick read. Very quick.) I’m enjoying the artwork made in and about 2020 very much.

When thinking of what to say about this book, all I can do is let out a big sigh.
Ain’t Burned All the Bright is a lot. It’s everything it needs to be, but it’s a lot.
I’m amazed the Reynolds and Griffin were able to tell such a beautiful story with so few words.
A picture really is worth a thousand words.

Ain’t Burned All the Bright by Jason Reynolds and Jason Griffin is about 2020 in all it’s worry and overwhelm and fear. Perhaps you can relate.
It’s beautiful and familiar, the protagonist missing his dad sequestered to a bedroom with Covid-19, watching his mom watch the news again, his sister seeking agency in her phone, his brother still playing video games. How does he find hope in a world that feels like it’s crashing in? Spoiler, he does find just enough brightness in the walls around him to keep going.
