I listened to the audio book of Us which I think helped keep my attention. It is quite a stark look at the life of a family approaching some big changes through the eyes of a father and husband.  I think at its core it details how differences in personality can make family life tricky and is a parable for making sure to enjoy your family without getting too bogged down in the practicalities of everyday life.

I like how the book jumped from past to present, and the perspective that awarded the reader as to what the narrator was omitting or where he had misunderstood his wife and son. It was an interesting book but I think I might have to try and find something a bit more uplifting to follow it!

A good, solid David Nicholls. He really is a great writer (original opinion, I know). The thing I like most about his writing is that it's so good, so readable, you often almost forget you're Reading A Book.

This was a classic of his, reflective and bittersweet and funny. A flawed but well-meaning and sweet main character, an ending that might not be what you'd expect unless you've read other DN books, in which case you probably spotted it a mile off. I quite liked the travel/art narrative, but there were times when I felt it was a bit spurious; kind of shoehorned in because this story about an average man and his family needed a USP and/or some structure. But still, it was pretty fun to read. A bit slow in places - I easily put it down for a couple of weeks in the middle of reading it without yearning to come back to it or thinking about it much, but when I did pick it up again it was a nice treat. That kind of book.
