I listened to the audiobook as a reread and as much as I absolutely love this book I don't think I'm a huge fan of the narrator. At least for this book. I felt like at times everything was read at one level without much change in the tone of her voice. Even to the point where a few times I was wondering who was actually speaking. The only noticeable change in her voice was when she read Noah's lines. Oh well, the story is still one of my favourites, and Noah Shaw is still as delicious as ever!

Fuck Noah and his boundary-stomping self, he was almost worst than the literal attempted-rapist the way he disregarded Mara’s consent about almost everything. The story would have been so much better without him in it.
Oh, and the ending felt like a complete cop-out.

Don't get me wrong, it was really good and captivating. It creeped me out so much. But... it just felt all over the place. I wouldn't know how we got from A to B, and there was so much happening. I think the romance accounts for like 3 of my stars because marasnoah? marashaw? I don't know, they were really cute and I just need a Noah Shaw in my life, please and thanks. I literally couldn't understand most of the book, and I don't think I can blame that entirely on my lack of sleep. The ending was really surprising. Also, the conversations and stuff went right over my head, I wouldn't know what the characters were talking about, or what they were implying. Anyway, for my first "horror" book, it left me pretty invested. Hopefully, I'll get to book 2 soon.

After the book:
What the hell. No. I am literally itching to buy the second book now. What a bloodly good book.
"Haunting and dreamlike - Cassandra Clare"
It was more than that!
I really fell in love with the whole paranormal theme of the book. This is the first sort of 'really' paranormal book that I've read. I loved the creepiness, the heart attack moments and the unknown aspect of the book. Now I'm definitely more into this genre (though I'm still not going to read really creepy books. Or horror books) a lot more than before.
*Just gonna explain the plot in this paragraph cause some people haven't read this book*
OK so the main character is Mara Dyer (I found it hard to catch on to. I found myself reading the book dyslexically, saying Myra Dara or Mayra Dryer) she was in an accident where a building collapsed but it left her unharmed. Her friends all died while she only suffered from bruising. She is told that it would be best if she started over in a new town, so she does. She moves to a new school, and things get pretty interesting. Queue the hallucinations, new guy Noah and dying people.
Can we just talk about Noah for a second? Like, ladies drop your bags, here comes Noah Shaw. I like his character, attitude and everything. He is described as having chestnut coloured hair, which I like. It's not like the typical blonde hair, blue eyes guy which so many books have. The only thing I don't like is that he smokes. This books is aimed at an older audience (not to mention how many times 'fuck' was written) but what if it had some influence and what not on people? Smoking is pictured as sexy in this book. I'm sorry, I'm just not comfortable thinking about people (fictional or real) getting cancer in their lungs and dying wheezing and gasping for breath.
T'was a good book. I look forward to reading 'The Evolution of Mara Dyer' soon, which by the way, I heard was only released at the end of October. So 5/5 to The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, which has also earned a place in my favourites shelf.

I've had this book on my shelf for a couple of years, and I'm so happy I finally decided to read it. I was confused in a good way at the beginning of the book, but the story picked up halfway through. Noah Shaw>>>> I loved Mara, too, but she really pissed me off at the end of the book. And it left off on a damn cliff hanger.
Graphic: Death
Minor: Sexual assault

I must say this book has intrigue. I feel like it's difficult to wrap your brain around because the concepts are foreign and you constantly feel like there are missing puzzle pieces. Its definitely dark and a bit creepy and I feel a bit lost. I hope the following book helps to fill in the gaps.

This book was brilliant and something I honestly didn't expect from the content, it is defiantly a new twist on the YA classic story line, a little dark in parts, funny in others and overall gets you to think.
