“Black Candle Women” is an overall enjoyable read.
Months ago I took a pic of it in my local bookstore to look for it at the library. I’m glad I listened to it instead. The narrator did an excellent job. It is a slow burn. If they turned it into a mini series, they’d probably add things to make the story juicier.
It was lovely to read a story about Black women where abuse wasn’t a part of their story.
If you’re interested in hoodoo then you might like this.
The ending was satisfying and felt complete.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I enjoyed the story and getting different perspectives. I suppose I just wanted more. More of the hoodoo and magic, it felt a little glossed over in some parts. But overall it was enjoyable.

I actually gave this book a 3.5. It was good and I loved the back story but I feel like there could have been so much more

DNF. The books seemed so promising but half way through nothing has progressed in the story. I don’t get a lot of time to read so I have to be very particular with which books I spend time on.

I really try my hardest not to DNF books, because I like to see them through, but this book was almost unbearable. It was very boring for me. I actually started this book almost a year ago, and put it down for a while because I was struggling to get through it. I picked it back up this year to see if I’d have a better experience but unfortunately, I did not. A lot of writing, a lot of text, a lot of fluff, for the story to go absolutely nowhere. There was so much potential with the storyline: a multi generational family of black women who do voodoo/black magic and who have been cursed, that every man they love will die. It just really fell short to me. The cover alone drew me into this book but unfortunately it was not enough.
