Reason read: recommended by multiple sources

Thoughts: Not all the stories in this collection worked for me (for example I just couldn't get into "The Game of Smash and Recovery"), but the ones that did were great -- I know these are all retellings/variations on existing tales, I should go back and read the originals at some point. Stories that I'd particularly recommend are "Skinder's Veil", and "The White Cat’s Divorce".

Did not realize the level of “what the fuck” this one had. I’ll probably reread it when I’m in a different mindset

much to think about! i love weird short story collections- i will say im not sure i was smart enough to fully grasp some of the meaning

it was also less inspired by fairytales than expected. super super loose inspiration but still fairytale vibes which was perfect

It's Kelly Link, and if you know her work that is all you need to know. My faves here are probably "The White Road" and "Skinder's Veil."

A shoty story collection from an author with a bent and twisted mind. Odd topics with weird twists. Well written.
