This book is more of a history lesson than it is a exploration of conspiracy theories.

These gentlemen do an amazing job. If you are unaware of their podcast, be aware that generally they indulge a conspiracy or fringe, thought, just to hype the intensity. After that, they thoughtfully break down what is happening. This book does that with aplomb. Frankly, I wish I could make it required reading. It is entertaining and engaging, but has no time for conflation.

I find conspiracy theories fun to read about, like ghost stories to me, I don't believe in them, but it's fun to pretend to. This book goes through some of the big and most well known conspiracy theories and walks through the history of them and then tackles the truths that we know that are behind them or at least sideways adjacent to them. A good conspiracy theory has that stickiness of truth to them, the government did this so is it so great of a leap to say that they would also do this other thing. The book was fun, I kind of wanted more crazy theories, but that wasn't the aim of the book.

I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone interested in politics. It truly debunks some difficult discussions we're having and some funsy ones as well. It's very helpful in showing the reader how to debunk conspiracy theories on your own! The writing is practical and quippy which I enjoyed though the tonal switches gave me whiplash sometimes. I liked how the book presses how important the information is while being clear about its politics and methodical as well.

5/5 I would  recommend!

Basically the US government has always done awful stuff so why wouldn't they be doing it now? Some conspiracies are debunked a few are left as a well maybe... Some discussion about how people fall for these things.
Well researched but very US focused.
Based on a podcast and listening to the audiobook feels very much like a cleaned up well produced podcast.
