I enjoyed the structure of the book, and the section on cannabis has really made me rethink my beliefs on how people should interact with mind-altering substances - can't say yet that I have changed my beliefs, but any book that gets me to ponder in such a way is a good book indeed. (other parts of the book got me thinking as well - I really enjoyed his writing about the different ways we have overdomesticated apples, overpesticized potatoes and the not very hidden risks of genetically engineered pest free potatoes.)

Really interesting, and now I am tempted to have all of my nonfiction through audio mp3 clips in the car.

Really. One of the best books I've read in a while.

This not a popular opinion, but none of Michael Pollan's books do it for me. His ideas are just not that impressive or original. He deserves credit for bringing his perspectives on ecology, food, and farm policy to such a large audience but that's where my praise ends.

Outrageously interesting! So many excellent points. My copy is completely dog-eared.

I really did enjoy this book. Michael Pollan tends to really show that he’s an older white man in his writing, so there are some cringe-ish moments, but overall this was a really beautiful and poetic look at the human relationship to plants. It was thoughtful and entertaining and fun.

Some chapters (like Apple) were awesomely well researched and totally full of the desire that one has for learning about good food. Others, like the canabis one (well, i guess just that one) made me feel like Pollan was just playing to the lcd and being a bit snarky. That took the review from a 5 to a 3. I wanted 3.5...but that doesn't exist yet.
