The ending kept this book from being a 4 star for me. I don't know quite why, but something was missing from where I felt the story was going or the main point. It was well written and I definitely felt empathy and sympathy for all the Riva children, I just wanted a little something more at the end...

Good, although it doesn't quite measure up to other books that I've read from Reid. It's a brilliant move to tell the story hour by hour in a 24-hour time span with flashbacks interspersed to fill in backstory, and I loved each of the Riva siblings and their close, multifaceted relationships with each other. However, the perspectives from other other various party guests aren't entirely successful, and I became impatient with a few late in the book, wanting to get back to what was unfolding with the Rivas.

it was pretty good!
it was really interesting, i read it in a day. but i think there was a lot of potential for a big climax. i liked the book, but that’s pretty much all- i didn’t feel very strongly about a lot of it! but it was a really good exploration of family dynamics and the characters were well written!! i would recommend

3.5 stars.

This book is like if a John Hughes movie, a Wes Anderson movie (specifically The Royal Tenenbaums) and the movie Amélie all had a baby. It is truly remarkable and awesome in some ways.

Both liked the Hollywood ending and thought it was cheesy. But maybe that was the point.

The one question I’m left with (bc truly this does all get wrapped up) - was Casey necessary? What did Casey bring that couldn’t have been brought from elsewhere? Did she have to be a possible Riva?

Anyway, worth the read.
