Read this years ago, and it was my first time reading non-fiction. The ludicrousness of the situation will ensure you can't look away from this book.

What a fascinating in-depth look into a terrifying set of events perpetuated by a narcissistic psychopath.

I think the last paragraph really says it all:

“A sociopath is often described as someone with little or no conscience. ...I’m fairly certain she didn’t initially set out to defraud investors and put patients in harm’s way when she dropped out of Stanford fifteen years ago... but there came a point when she stopped listening to sound advice and began to cut corners. Her ambition was voracious and it brooked no interference. If there was collateral damage on her way to riches and fame, so be it.”

Honestly, I don’t believe she ever cared about the people. I do believe it was only about power and money, but I respect Carreyrou’s perspective.

No one wants to think the worst, but she is the worst.

This book is a real page-turner. I didn’t know anything about Elizabeth Holmes and the scam she perpetuated with her Silicon-valley start-up Theranos. The story is fascinating and somewhat revolting. The author Carreyrou is the Wall Street Journal investigative reporter who finally managed to expose the fraud. Highly recommended.

A very lucid account of just how egregious Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos had been, and just what kind of disasters that can result from Silicon Valley's combination of greedy and idealism. No doubt these are just the tip of the iceberg.

While reading, I keep googling for updates, hoping to see Holmes et al are suffering some kind of fall out. Sadly, her life seems idyllic: happily in love, living in luxury, unaccepting of any fault. An anti-hero celebrity who can still garner VC attention even after the Theranos disaster. Now that she's finally indicted, I can only hope that, though justice's wheel grinds slow, it grinds finely.
