Oh, I so want to give this 5 stars, if just for “The Usual Santas”, but I reserve 5 stars for extra special unbelievable masterpieces so I can’t dilute my standards. That being said, I laughed, guffawed, sputtered, and read with a big grin through every story. Indeed, Mr. Herron is a master at work. Thank you. And now, I shall be quiet, just like “putting a cover over a budgie’s cage” and fill my trifle bowl with a touch of brandy. Mmm…

It’s a Mick Herron! What did you expect? Of course it’s 4 stars.

A bit "too clever", not Le Carre like at all, and I didn't care for the characters....

I’ve said it before the man is a genius at spy novels.
I’m not a short story person but I really enjoyed the breadth of topics!

I came for the Jackson Lamb short story, but left with another favorite Mick Herron character, private investigator Zoe Boehm. Herron delivers clever and original stories. And the story of the department store Santas was so amusing.
